Act respecting the Québec correctional system
The Commission is committed to raising awareness and facilitating the participation of First Nations and Inuit (FNI) offenders in conditional release measures, including the temporary absence in preparation for conditional release and conditional release. To this end, it provides personalized notices to FNI offenders and the conduct of their hearings is adjusted to consider the specific realities of this population.
Similarly, during hearings, FNI offenders may be accompanied and supported by various support workers involved in their release plan, including the Native support workers (NSW) and representatives from resources involved in their social reintegration. As with all offenders, they also have the right to be represented or assisted by any person of their choice, except someone incarcerated in another correctional facility. An interpreter also participates in the hearing when requested by FNI offenders.
Presentation of a sitting before the Commission to enable offenders to better prepare for their hearing.
